The Gould Academy, established in 1983, is committed to providing high quality dance training in all facets of dance. Our goal is to enrich each student in dance, to provide a progressive well-rounded curriculum of instruction in a friendly and positive environment. It has been a wonderful opportunity to experience the artistic growth of my students over the last twenty five years. I would like to thank all my students, families and friends who joined us for our 25th Anniversary Gala Production in June of 2008. It was a memorable event for Gould Academy of Dance Arts and the City of Elgin. I was very honored to receive a wonderful speech and plaque congratulating me on 25 Years of Dance Excellence plus a standing ovation from the audience on Sunday. Registration is now in progress for 2009 classes. New students receive a complimentary week of classes and students who register after the beginning of the session will have tuition prorated. We offering classes Mon-Sat. New classes and some new teachers have been added for ages 2 to adult in all styles of dance. The Illinois Railway Museum, as you see it today, is the result of decades of effort by a dynamic group of dedicated volunteers. All of the buildings, track, locomotives and cars were assembled here at Union on what was once farmland. Our main line trackage was laid on the vacant right-of-way of the Elgin & Belvidere Electric railway. Why would rational adults freely contribute so much of their time and treasure to creating this repository of railroad history? To answer this question, we must remember that at one time in our nation's past the railroad industry was the largest private employer. With so many families supported by one enterprise, the widespread interest in that industry is understandable....manifesting itself in special interest groups devoted to various activities such as taking railroad pictures or publishing books on railroads, building railroad models or just "riding the rails," The Illinois Railway Museum is probably the ultimate railroad historian special interest group. Originally formed to preserve one important piece of rolling stock, it has evolved into an educational and historic preservation organization recreating possibly the largest operating demonstration railroad showcase on the North American continent.
